parade of corpses 2015 documentary

In November 2015, Exquisite Corpse International launched their first annual Parade of Corpses — an ambitious group exhibition featuring the work of over thirty world-class American and British artists intended to travel around the world over the course of a year. Based on a game dating back to the 1920s, it was developed by the surrealists as a way of combining their individual styles to achieve strange and surprising results.

Each artist worked on a section of a body (or “corpse”) in their chosen media, either 2D (painting) or 3D (sculpture). The first artist in each group created the legs and feet, then passed it to the second artist to work on the torso. That artist then passed it on to a third, who completed the head. Each artist was not be able to see the work of the previous artists until the unveiling at the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, FL.

This featurette serves as Part 1 of the story, capturing the thoughts and emotions of the artist collective prior to the opening night and public unveiling of the artworks.
